Agency - Drowning Prevention Coalition Of Palm Beach County Education

Agency Details:

Drowning Prevention Coalition Of Palm Beach County
Last updated on June 18, 2013

WE SAVE LIVES! Our Mission is to promote, develop, and support training and community education efforts that prevent drowning, near drowning and other water related incidents in Palm Beach County. What does this all mean? We are passionate about preventing water related injuries and deaths. The Coalition truly believes that water safety is a community wide effort and therefore we encourage resident involvement to help get this important message out.

Description:
The Drowning Prevention Coalition provides programs on water safety and drowning prevention, which are interactive, land-based and tailored to any audience. In addition, the Coalition offers vouchers for free swimming lessons to qualified families. Pools accepting these vouchers are located throughout the county. Moreover, the Coalition attends health and safety fairs providing the community with vital water safety information.

History:
In 1996, a former Palm Beach County Commissioner became adamant about developing an organization that would be geared toward drowning prevention. The Drowning Prevention Coalition was “born” because of a personal affiliation with a near drowning victim as well as having disgust for the number of drowning incidents that kept occurring in Palm Beach County.
The Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County is a community-based organization with over 30 partners, whose target is to have zero drowning in Palm Beach County.
