Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on May 15, 2014

The Putnam Museum is planning a full summer camp schedule this year. Assistants will help teachers in moving groups to different areas in the museum, supervising lunches, leading small group activities, and more. We are looking for a commitment to an entire week of camp from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but are happy to also work with your schedule and there is an exception noted (*) the week of June 30. Please bring a lunch, wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a hat, if necessary, to protect yourself during outdoor activities.

June 9-13, assist 2nd-5th graders with Harry Potter Camp
June 16-20, assist 3rd-5th graders with CS Eye-Spy Camp
June 23-27, assist 4th-8th graders with Rube Goldberg Design Academy
June 30-July 2*, assist with three done-in-a day camps for older students ranging from 4th to 8th grades. June 30 is Xpress Urself for 4th-6th graders, July 1 is Xpress Urself for 7th-8th graders and July 2 is No Boys Allowed! (Science for Girls) for 6th-8th grade girls.
July 7-11, assist 4th-8th graders with Don't Try This at Home! Camp
July 14-18, assist kindergartners-2nd graders with Rube Goldberg Design Academy Jr. Camp in the mornings and Be Sense-ible! Camp in the afternoons.
July 28-August 1, assist kindergartners-2nd graders with Bug Bonanza! Camp in the mornings and Astronaut Training Camp in the afternoons.

Full descriptions of the camps can be found on our web site, www.putnam.org.

Volunteers need to be able to work alongside museum educators and children in grades k-8. Some activities may be outside or physical. Volunteers should expect to be on their feet, so please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Campers bring their lunches, so if you are volunteering, you may want to bring a lunch or snack as well.

All volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application. The Putnam will complete a background check on any volunteers over age 18. Volunteers will be provided hands-on training with class instructors during the program.
