Volunteer Opportunity - Adopt-a-Shelf Families Youth Connection Senior Connection Public Transportation RSVP 55+ Volunteer Station

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on February 6, 2013

Take pride in your public library- Adopt-a-Shelf! Our library staff works hard to maintain orderly shelves, but sometimes items can become misplaced. We know that it is frustrating when items aren’t where they should be, so we are looking for volunteers to help make sure items are in order and the shelves are looking great. The volunteer duties include: finding items on your shelf that are out of order, following the Dewey Decimal System, arranging items neatly on the shelf and pulling items forward if necessary. Duties may also include shifting shelves if necessary, so that each row is easy to browse, dusting the shelves as you shift and removing materials that are out of place. Adopt-a-shelf is a great opportunity to take an active role at the library and it is available at all MCPL locations.

Volunteers should have a general knowledge of how to file items in alphabetical and numerical order. A flexible schedule is desired! MCPL asks for a minimum commitment of a 3 month “adoption period”, for at least 1 hour every 2 weeks. Volunteers must be comfortable lifting books and other materials, and have the ability to reach the top and bottom shelves. Volunteers younger than age 12 can volunteer with their family and need to be supervised at all times.
