United Way Volunteer Connection serves as a clearinghouse for individuals and groups seeking volunteer opportunities in Marathon County. At any given time, 170-200+ volunteer opportunities are searchable online, representing the volunteer needs of approximately 90 local nonprofit organizations. Volunteer Connection staff is available to offer personal assistance in finding volunteer opportunities by phone, email or in person--stop by the United Way office M-F from 8am-5pm.

A program of the United Way of Marathon County, our purpose is to build community strength through volunteerism by connecting volunteers and organizations with opportunity to serve.

Description:
United Way Volunteer Connection offers an enhanced online volunteer matching database that is direct, efficient, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Organizations can use Volunteer Connection's website to post volunteer needs and manage volunteers. Volunteers can search all posted opportunities in one central location based on keyword, interest, skill, or time availability.

Also, volunteers without Internet access can call 2-1-1 for volunteer information. An information specialist can assist potential volunteers 24/7 or they can be referred to Volunteer Connection staff for more complex requests.

Volunteer Connection offers an online donated goods bulletin board called GoodsMatch where organizations with needs are matched to individuals with available goods.

Signature volunteer projects coordinated by Volunteer Connection include Global Youth Service Day (April), the Make A Difference Day Rake-A-Thon (October), Bundles of Joy Gift Wrapping (November-December) and Ready to Respond/Volunteer Reception Center Team (Disaster volunteers that will screen, credential and place spontaneous volunteers willing to help after a disaster). United Way and Volunteer Connection also work closely with the Workplace Volunteer Council, assisting with the Fill A Backpack Fill A Need project in August.

United Way Volunteer Connection 5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
We met the sweetest lady through Make A Difference Day raking.

The Make A Difference Day Raking Project coordinates volunteers to rake for elderly and disabled residents in our area. My boyfriend and I made it out to a lovely lady's home. She was so grateful for the help she came out and raked right along with us. She shared stories of her family and meeting Coach McCarthy before he was the Packers' head coach. She just kept telling us how her life was better for having met us. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
