Heritage Health is North Idaho's premier provider of integrated medical, dental and behavioral health services.
What We Do:
Heritage Health is North Idaho's premier provider of integrated medical, dental and behavioral health services. Our amazing care teams deliver world-class healthcare utilizing a patient directed, community focused approach. Providing high quality, affordable healthcare from the heart is our passion.
Heritage Health has proudly served North Idaho since 1985 under the names of Lake City Health and Dirne Health Centers, Inc. Heritage Health is a private, non-profit 501(C)(3)charitable organization operating under the name of Dirne Health Centers, Inc.
Heritage Health is governed by board of directors, the majority of whom are active patients at our centers. This structure, combined with our non-profit status allows Heritage Health to be responsive first and foremost to the needs of our patients and not corporate shareholders. Our culture, pricing, hours of operation, services, locations and strategic direction are set by people who rely on us for their healthcare needs. This refreshing and unique structure is what sets us apart from the other profit focused healthcare organizations in our area. We truly are a community owned and operated resource.
As it was originally named, ‘Lake City Health' was largely conceived through the pioneering efforts of several champions, Lidwina Dirne, Peggy Irving RN, and Sandy Mamola.
The result was the start-up of a volunteer run, free-clinic that received total community backing, and operated two evenings per-week. For 19 years the clinic was supported by local donations, in-kind contributions, pro-bono legal services, and staffed by volunteer primary care providers. As the demand for services increased and exceeded the capacity of a part-time volunteer clinic, the need for expansion and growth of services and sites became a necessity.
In 2003, 'Dirne Clinic' received federal funding from the Health and Resources Services Administration (HRSA) to become a federally qualified health center (FQHC). By February of 2004, the small clinic opened its doors as a full-time community health center. During its first year, Dirne Health Centers provided services to 3,806 individuals. This number has continued to steadily increase each year, with 15,000 individuals served in 2012.
Additional services have been continually added since its inception. In June, 2007, Dirne Health Centers was awarded a Healthcare for the Homeless expanded medical capacity grant to serve the homeless population in Kootenai County, further broadening the reach of its services and increasing access to healthcare.
In Sept 2013 the organization expanded to six sites, added some specialty care (pediatrics and physical therapy) and grew into 'Heritage Health'. The expansion of sites, services included the exportation of Ms. Dirne's heritage, "Healthcare from the Heart."
