The purpose of the Volunteer Relations / Church Relations Committee is:
- Identify, recruit, orient, utilize, retain, and recognize the volunteers who make Habitat’s ministry a reality
- Work in partnership with area churches to recruit volunteers and generate financial support. In order to maintain the highest possible level of participation, the Committee is responsible for ensuring that GCHFH’s programs are volunteer-friendly and provide a rewarding volunteer experience.
Members should: Have volunteer experience Be familiar with their community’s resources and potential sources of volunteers Be comfortable sharing the HFH mission, ministry, and Christian ecumenical identity with large and small groups of potential volunteers Know the different reasons people volunteer and the reasons HFH chooses to build houses with volunteers Include representatives of church mission/outreach committees and Habitat homeowners who can share their story. The Committee will: Establish a breakdown of the pool of current and prospective volunteers available to the affiliate by group including churches, businesses, civic groups, individuals, and Habitat homeowners. Develop an annual plan for targeting new volunteers from untapped sources and groups. Arrange for the Public Relations Committee to make presentations about Habitat housing ministry to current and prospective supporting churches followed by volunteer construction crew recruitment campaigns by members of the Volunteer Relations / Church Relations Committee. Maintain a database of volunteers who have served including a record of number of hours volunteered along with a record of volunteers who are interested in serving the future. Work with other committees to organize an annual volunteer recognition program and ensure that gratitude and recognition are extended to participating churches. Coordinate the World Habitat Day activities (first week in October). Provide the Board with an annual report of committee actions and volunteer participation data.
