Our mission is to transform the lives of homeless children and their families by providing safe shelter, food, counseling, and training in partnership with local communities of faith through hospitality and daily living support in a compassionate setting. The program is designed to address the needs of families and equip them to move into permanent housing as quickly as possible.

Description:
Family Promise is committed to helping low-income families in Lawrence achieve lasting independence. We do this by mobilizing congregations and other community resources to provide safe shelter, meals, and support services for homeless families in a child-friendly environment.

• Family Promise programs are currently in operation in over 140 communities, in 41 states around the country.
• In 2011 the average length of stay in the program was 67 days.
• 4354 bed nights of lodging were provided in 2011
• Volunteers provided over 12,000 hours of service in 2011
• In 2011 18 families were served.



History:
Family Promise of Lawrence opened in November of 2008. In the past five years Family Promise has served 50 family units. One out of every three congregations in Lawrence is involved in Family Promise. In 2011 Family Promise was able to add transitional housing properties to our services. This has doubled the capacity of the program and greatly increased our ability to help the community.
