Emerging Leaders Initiative (ELI) aligns charitable giving with the important community issue of improving high school graduation rates. ELI membership brings access to our community's most prominent business and philanthropic leaders -- all who are helping to advance the common good to create better opportunities for all.

As an emerging leader in our community, we invite you to LIVE UNITED by helping to prepare our youth for a future of success. The following organizations are ELI supported programs with volunteer opportunities. Click on the name of each organization to view more information specific to that organization.

Boys and Girls Club of Central Iowa -- McCombsMiddle School in collaboration with school and community partners, provides Club members with enriching experiences, positive adult relationships and the developmental skills needed to be successful adults. They seek to ensure young persons are involved in positive activities during out-of-school time and are improving both in their school attendance and school academics.  Their goal is to mentor these students through high school graduation. We encourage volunteers to participate at the McCombs Club as homework tutors (especially in the area of reading and math), and/or being adult leaders by helping play educational games, teaching classes (in art, health, life skills, career development, sports, and other areas of person interest), or helping out in the Club office. Contact Shalee Torrence (Unit Director) at 242-8447 or storrence@bgcci.org

Children and Family Urban Ministries -- The WHYLD Girls Program and Backyard Boyz s are gender specific programs for 6th – 8th grade girls and boys at MoultonExtendedLearningCenter.  Literacy is layered into every component of the program.  Besides weekly after school programming, workshops are scheduled during fall and spring breaks.  Volunteers are needed as life coaches, advisory board members, and support volunteers.  Contact Naomi at 282-3242.
