Elaine has volunteered with United Way of King County's Out of the Rain (OOTR) Impact Council since 2004. Throughout this time she has helped guide the direction of OOTR's work, reviewed hundreds of funding applications and been a strong advocate for the most vulnerable people in our community.
Before being laid off in 2008, Elaine worked at Washington Mutual. One of her roles at WAMU was providing support for the Individual Development Account (IDA) program, a service aimed at helping low-income individuals build savings. The IDA program relies on a strong partnership with financial institutions and Elaine was a constant source of support for the growing program. After WAMU, Elaine decided to volunteer with UWKC each week to support the IDA program which was in the middle of a major transition.
Throughout 2009, Elaine spent countless hours reviewing financial records for participants, cleaning the program database and most importantly sharing her expertise in working with financial institutions. Much of this work was tedious and time consuming but it was critical to ensuring a smooth transition for the program and the participants. All the while, she continued to be an active volunteer with the Impact Council. Elaine never misses an opportunity for additional training and is always someone we can account on to go the extra mile.
Elaine continues to volunteer with the Impact Council and with the IDA Program and was recently accepted into the Peace Corps. Her commitment to volunteerism and ending homelessness has been unflappable – even when her personal or professional life hits a road bump.
