Boys & Girls Clubs of King County exists to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

Description:
Our 40 sites, including 12 full-service Clubs, change the lives of more than 15,000 Club kids every year. We use engaging, enriching programs and activities to support academic success, promote healthy lifestyles, and build good character & citizenship skills during out-of-school time.

History:
January 1943, a riot broke out on the corner of 85th and Greenwood involving over 100 teens. King County Sheriff, Harlan S. Callahan response to this incident, and the ever-growing wave of juvenile crime and vandalism, by appointing his Deputy Joe Woelfert to solve the problem. Joe's answer was to open the first Boys Club on the same corner where the riot occurred. The Club was a rousing success. Within two years, eight Clubs sprouted up in local neighborhoods throughout King County. Today there are 12 Clubs in operation where we enrich the lives of thousands of youth daily.
