Organization - Allyship

Allyship, as a volunteer-led organization, builds alliances among human rights and social justice communities, educating both LGBTQ and heterosexual individuals and groups on the challenges we face, as LGBTQ people, in the areas of health care, immigration, homelessness and economic justice.

Allyship engages in direct action, coalitions, and long- and short-term social justice campaigns, to build a progressive presence in LGBTQ and mainstream social justice movements.

Our mission states: We are LGBTQ and Allies who believe that all oppressions are interconnected and in the possibility of a world free of oppression. We seek to work in solidarity with marginalized communities to understand the interconnectedness of oppression and to support the systematic liberation of all people.

History:
Allyship came into being in 2005, to join the fight for social justice as out LGBTQ individuals in the immigrant rights, health care, and labor movements. We believe LGBTQ liberation is directly linked to the struggles of other marginalized communities, and in aligning our struggles to build relationships with other movements to further the freedoms of LGBTQ people.
