We are looking for children ages 3-16 to take part in a youth service project in honor of Kids Care Week (October 17-23). Can you help us spread the word? (particularly to elementary school teachers?)
Kids Care Clubs, a program of generationOn, has awarded United Way of Johnson County a mini-grant of $250 to organize a service project for kids. Kids Care Clubs develop compassion and inspire a spirit of service by providing young people with hands-on volunteer opportunities.
United Way of Johnson County is collaborating with Solon Kids Care on this project to "Make Your Mark on the World: Go the Extra Mile", which recognizes the power that kids have to positively impact their community by helping others.
Children are invited to decorate reusable grocery totes with pictures or words that demonstrate how someone can make a difference. The totes will then be sold at local stores for a nominal price to raise funds for subsequent Kids Care projects and encourage others to "make their mark on the world". All materials are provided.
This project will take place on Sunday, October 17th at 12:30pm and at 2pm at the Iowa City Public Library, Meeting Rooms B and C.
To register your child, email the United Way of Johnson County at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 337-VOLS (8657) and let us know which time you plan to attend. Space is limited!
