The Volunteer Center manages an Emergency Volunteer Center that is activated by Johnson County Emergency Management or local governments during times of disaster and recovery.
The purpose of the EVC is to coordinate community needs with community volunteers wanting to help with tasks such as sandbagging or cleaning up.
EVC volunteers register and screen community volunteers, match them with community needs (nonprofit, government, business and local homeowners), and conduct safety briefings. EVC volunteers help get the right volunteers to the right place at the right time.
The training sessions will be held from 9:00am-12:00pm on Friday, October 8, and Saturday, October 9. Participants will only need to attend one day of training, which includes a simulation. Upon completion of the training, EVC volunteers are asked for a one year commitment, with the possibility of signing on for an additional second year. Trained EVC volunteers would be notified when the EVC is activated and then sign up for times they can volunteer.
For more information, or to sign up for the training, please contact Jill Schnoebelen at the United Way's Volunteer Center at (319) 337-VOLS (8657) or by e-mail at vols@unitedwayjc.org.
Specific location of training (Coralville) will be shared once you have registered!
