Become a Volunteer Reader, Tutor, Mentor

Today, fewer Americans are likely to earn a diploma than their parents, a distinction not shared by any other industrialized country. Locally, 25% of fourth graders are not reading proficiently. Your help can change this.

We know that volunteers focused on literacy and mentoring will play a crucial role in boosting academic achievement and accomplishing our community's 2020 Vision Goal to improve success for children and youth by decreasing the preparation gaps by 1/3 for school, post-secondary and work.  

Nationally, United Way has launched an ambitious goal to recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors. Join United Way and come together with friends, family, and neighbors to show the power of Living United.

Volunteer reading, tutoring or mentoring one hour each week can change the life of a young person. If one million of us do it, it will change America.
