Agency - NORWESCAP Food Bank

The NORWESCAP Food Bank aids in the relief of hunger by providing food and support to non-profit charitable organizations in Hunterdon, Sussex and Warren Counties.

Description:
The Food Bank is a partnering Distribution Organization of Community Food Bank of New Jersey, a member of Feeding America which distributes donations of surplus food from food manufacturers, wholesalers, distribution centers and food brokers. The Food Bank also distributes USDA commodities to member shelters, soup kitchens, emergency food pantries and adult and children's day care centers.

The NORWESCAP Food Bank distributes 2 million pounds of food annually to over 120 shelters, soup kitchens, on-site feeding programs, child care centers, senior centers, and programs for the disabled in Hunterdon, Sussex and Warren Counties. The NORWESCAP Food Bank helps to feed thousands of individuals monthly; many of whom are children.

The NORWESCAP Food Bank works with over 600 volunteers who contribute more than 7,000 volunteer hours a year.

Each $1.00 donated to the NORWESCAP Food Bank provides 14 pounds of food that will be distributed throughout the communities we serve.

History:
The NORWESCAP Food Bank opened in 1985. The Food Bank is a member of the Feeding America Network, which is a network of over 200 food banks throughout the United States. We are one of six Food Banks throughout the State of New Jersey.
