Our Mission We protect drinking water and preserve land to maintain the natural beauty and enhance the livability of your town.
Description:
Our Scope: Preserve and protect the 36,000 acres of the Great Swamp watershed — more than just the Refuge. Preserve and protect the five streams — Loantaka Brook, Great Brook, Primrose Brook, Black Brook, and the headwaters of the Passaic River — which feed the Passaic River, providing drinking water to over a million people. Preserve and protect the ten towns surrounding the Great Swamp Watershed — Madison, Chatham Township, Harding, Mendham, Mendham Township, Bernards Township, Bernardsville, Morristown, Morris Township, Long Hill Township. Serve the people who live, work, and play within the watershed. How you can help: Organize a day of service through our corporate workday program, where volunteers from your company spend the day working with us. Over 90% of our volunteer hours come from workdays. Hike the trails! You can gain ideas on the best ways to improve your own property, and enjoy the wildlife that abounds because of the work done at the site. For more information, read the trail guide as you go, available in the mailbox at the entrance. Volunteer! Visit our site at www.greatswamp.org, and protect your water and land by becoming a CMA hands-on land management volunteer. Attend the Public Programs hosted by GSWA at the CMA, including vernal pool studies and moonlight hikes. Join us! Visit our site to become a member of GSWA.
