Jane decided to go for a walk one day, a ten mile walk to a doctor's appointment! Unfortunately she only made it a couple of miles before exhaustion forced her to give up. Why did she attempt this? Jane has a number of health issues including the fact that she is living with cancer. She is unable to drive and there is no public transportation available in her community. She had no other way to get to there. Since Jane found TASC and its corps of volunteer drivers she's been able to make it to a lot more of her appointments and she's been able to save the soles of her shoes!
Next time you back out of the driveway think about how easy and rewarding it would be to offer Jane, or someone like her, a ride. You can head to the grocery store and make a real difference in a person's quality of life at the same time! TASC volunteer drivers decide how often they provide rides; once a week, once a month, once in a blue moon! The TASC office takes care of scheduling, so the only planning a volunteer has to do is to decide if a particular ride request fits their schedule. TASC provides service to adult residents of Exeter, Greenland, Hampton, Hampton Falls, North Hampton, Rye, Seabrook and Stratham, NH who are age 55 or better or have a disability that prevents them from driving. TASC volunteer drivers get to meet new people and have great conversations. One volunteer has said that this is the most rewarding volunteer service he has ever provided---and he has more than 30 years of volunteering under his belt! Most importantly, TASC volunteer drivers know first hand that their effort, the simple act of providing a ride, really makes a difference.
Volunteer drivers must be at least 25 years old; have a legally inspected, registered and insured vehicle, and a favorable driving record. A motor vehicle and criminal background check, at TASC's expense, are required. There is also a one hour orientation to go over TASC's policies and procedures. This opportunity is sponsored by: TASC-Transportation Assistance For Seacoast Citizens
