Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity
Logo

Habitat for Humanity is a faith-based organization that builds homes with community members who can't afford to buy homes on the standard housing market. Habitat provides the home at cost, and provides interest free financing.

In addition to building safe, decent, affordable homes, the SENH Habitat for Humanity operates a ReStore - a retail outlet for home building and improvement supplies. It is located at 15 4th Street in Dover. The number is 603-750-3200

Description:
Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity is managed by a board of directors, currently including 10 board members. All board positions are filled by volunteers. In addition to construction related tasks, we hold fund raising events, manage mortgage payment collections and communicate with our volunteers, contributors and communities.

Our service area includes all of Strafford County and parts of Rockingham County, including Portsmouth, Newington, Newcastle, the Hamptons, Greenland, Rye and more.

History:
Since 1992, SENH HFH has built 15 homes in our service area.

Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates work together with the local community, local business, volunteers, families and others in need of housing assistance.

Habitat houses are built with tax-deductible donations using volunteer and skilled labor. The collaboration of community, local business leaders, the future homeowners and volunteer/skilled labor creates a team of interests in the work of building affordable housing.

The Habitat philosophy is that we offer a hand up, not a hand out, to those who wish to become homeowner partners. Families who receive Habitat homes provide 250 hours of labor on their own home and/or subsequent projects. They are also required to repay the cost of building the home through a no-interest Habitat loan. Currently a Habitat house in the U.S. costs an average of $48,537 with a monthly mortgage of $300. Right now, in the SENH area, the average home costs around $115k, with a monthly mortgage of $700.
