My Friend's Place
Last updated on October 23, 2015

My Friend's Place is a homeless shelter that provides emergency housing for individuals and families. We also offer longer term assistance in one of our 4 transitional housing units.

An average of 18 people stay at My Friend's Place each night. An individual will stay an average 40 days while family's tend to stay longer. Residents at the shelter are required to seek employment and search for housing. They also prepare their own meals, and keep the shelter clean. The shelter is handicapped accessible.

My Friend's Place was found in 1987 and opened the doors of the shelter in 1989. Approximately 200 people per year stay at the shelter. The name of the shelter is reported to have come from someone who recognized that being homeless carried a certain stigma. The idea was that when asked where they were living - a homeless person could say: "I'm staying at My Friend's Place".
