We've all heard the saying "Time is Money."

For some families in the Greater New Haven area, your time could literally mean more money for them.  If you're looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity that will utilize your financial know-how SAM is looking for you!

If you have a mind for numbers and some time to spare, SAM has the perfect opportunity for you.  Volunteer to be a SAM Budget Coach. It's an excellent way to make a meaningful difference in someone's life.

How it Works

Budget Coaches work with households to set and achieve financial goals through a series of one-on-one sessions (up to six) over a six month period. Together, SAM participants and coaches build knowledge and change behaviors, so families can take control of their finances and be on the road to financial stability.

You do NOT need to be a financial professional in order to become a SAM volunteer Budget Coach.  You DO need to be an innovative thinker with a big heart, comfortable with budgeting, and open to working with new people in new ways.

As a SAM volunteer budget coach, you will...

  • commit to up to six one-on-one sessions over six months

  • be trained in budget coaching and cultural and social-economic sensitivity

  • attend required trainings and submit progress updates
