The Supporting Our Youth Task Force of the Greater Hyannis Civic Association strives to build positive community with our youth.

Description:
The Greater Hyannis Civic Association's Supporting Our Youth Task force (HySOY for short) meets weekly since the large Voices of the Village meeting in April 2011. With active membership of about twenty-five people and many others willing to provide volunteer assistance, the group is diverse in its strengths. Members include former or current educators and principals, pastors, business people, parents and grandparents. Each member has committed to supporting Hyannis youth through both existing programs and through the creation of new initiatives. Members have joined subcommittees to work on various areas to support our youth.

We currently meet every Tuesday at 6pm at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center's United Cultures Resource Room and new members and interested parties are always welcome.

Our monthly meetings follow a general format:

1st Tuesday: Mentor and other Volunteer Training
2nd Tuesday: Program Administration (Mentoring, Homework Help/Summer Reading, Early Literacy Initiative)
3rd Tuesday: Childhood Enrichment Opportunities (sponsorships for extracurricular activities)
4th Tuesday: Whole Group Meeting
5th Tuesday: Whole Group Meeting when applicable

Please contact Moira Bundschuh, director at hysoytaskforce@gmail.com for more information or to volunteer.

Currently we provide volunteer opportunities administratively on our committee, to gather new or like-new books for students aged 0-12, with extracurricular sponsorships for youth, through Kindergarten mentoring at Hyannis West Elementary and through School Year Homework Help at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center.

History:
The Supporting Our Youth Task Force started in April 2011 from an outpouring of community concern and support. Membership includes both Hyannis residents, business people and other concerned community members. Please visit our Facebook Page www.facebook.com/HyannisSupportingOurYouth or http://hysoy.blogspot.com for more information or join one of our weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 6pm at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center.
