Position: Board Member Purpose of Position: The Board of Directors is the primary volunteer leadership group, working to achieve the vision and mission of Hostelling International - Wisconsin Council. The Board provides oversight, strategic direction, and ensures adequate resources and effective management of those resources The Wisconsin Council oversees two hostels--the Madison Hostel, in downtown Madison, and Eagle Hostel, in Kettle Moraine State Park. In addition to oversight of these facilities, the Wisconsin Council strives to further the mission of Hostelling International through programs, activities, and marketing. Responsibilities: The Board of Directors meets the first Thursday of each month. A one year commitment is desired. Vision and Mission: Understands and furthers the mission, "To help all, especially the young, understand the world and its people through Hostelling." purpose, goals, policies, and programs. Enhances HI-Madison Hostel's public image by serving as an advocate to members, volunteers, and the general public. Strategic Direction: Advise and guide the organization in policy making and long-range planning for the future. Monitor and strengthen its programs. Serve in leadership positions, as committee members, and undertake special assignments as appropriate.
