The National Lung Cancer Partnership is dedicated to decreasing deaths due to lung cancer and helping patients live longer and better through research, awareness and advocacy.

Description:
Our immediate goals are to:
(1) Raise awareness of the deadly impact of lung cancer
(2) Increase funding for lung cancer research
(3) Improve patient care by educating and empowering patients & health care professionals

Some of our current programs include:
*Lung Cancer Research Grants to provide seed money for promising novel research for young investigators to promote the understanding of the molecular, cellular, and environmental underpinnings of lung cancer.
*Meetings and Conferences to increase the profile of lung cancer and its toll on people's lives, increase research interest in lung cancer, and forward the careers of health-care professionals in lung cancer research.
*Print Newsletters that describe updates in lung cancer research, treatment and advocacy.
*A Patient Education Handbook to describe treatment options, side effects, and participation in clinical research.
*A Patient Education Video to describe the clinical trials process to patients and encourage them to consider a clinical trial as part of their treatment options.
*Public Service Announcements to educate the public about their risks and symptoms of lung cancer.

History:
National Lung Cancer Partnership was founded as Women Against Lung Cancer by Dr. Joan Schiller, an oncologist previously at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, now at the University of Texas-Southwestern. Dr. Schiller became frustrated by the lack of progress on a number of fronts, including: attention to lung cancer as a women's health issue; funding for lung cancer research; finding qualified researchers to fill fellowship and other training spots; understanding about how men and women develop lung cancer and respond to treatments. With these disparities in mind, she gathered together her colleagues, patients, and family members of patients to form Women Against Lung Cancer. The organization was officially incorporated in March, 2003, and changed its name to National Lung Cancer Partnership in June, 2006 to broaden its mission to the entire community affected by lung cancer.
