The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education,advocacy and service.
History:
Since the American Cancer Society took its first steps in 1913, the organization has had one purpose - to eliminate cancer. In 1946, the American Cancer Society launched the grants program that funds research efforts, including grants to 29 Nobel Prize winners. This past year, the Midwest Division continued the journey to find a cure and help those whose lives have been impacted by this disease.
