The Salvation Army Booth House Emergency and Transitional Shelter is a 24-hour 365-days/year emergency and transitional housing facility for area women, children and families located in Baltimore City (1114 N. Calvert Street). Consisting of a 57 bed, 30-day residency emergency shelter and a 19 bed, 2-year residency transitional housing unit, the facility provides a safe, comfortable environment for those working to rebuild their lives. Handicapped accessible with a wheelchair lift and elevator, the facility also houses a full kitchen where on-site cooks provide three meals a day for residents. In 2009, the Booth House served a grand total of 997 individuals (non-duplicated).

Volunteer Opportunities:

  1. Volunteers are needed to help the Activities Coordinator Mondays through Thursdays 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with arts & crafts, computer lab, movies, photo frame decorating, coloring, journaling, etc.

  2. Volunteers are needed when children have summer/winter/spring breaks (Jun 10th to August, Dec. 24th to Jan. 3rd, March 29th to April 5th). Volunteers will supervise youth, play games, show movies, etc.

  3. Volunteers are needed to help when a food shipment is received once or twice a month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to organize the stock and to help cook.

  4. Volunteers are needed for spring and fall clean-ups: house down the front and back of building, clean stair wells, wipe down walls, etc. This is best done on Saturdays.
