Agency - The Rape Crisis Center of Central Massachusetts Youth Volunteers

Agency Details:

The Rape Crisis Center of Central Massachusetts
Last updated on January 25, 2013

The Rape Crisis Center of Central Massachusetts provides services to survivors of sexual assault and their family, friends and loved ones. We serve the geographic area of Worcester County. Our offices are located in Worcester and Fitchburg.

Description:
At the Rape Crisis Center of Central Massachusetts, we use the word "survivor" rather than "victim" to describe someone who has been raped or sexually abused in order to reflect one's strength and healing capacity. Our agency services are based on a philosophy of empowerment. We recognize that sexual assault is a violation motivated by power and violence and is never the survivor's fault. Our counselors help survivors regain a sense of control and power over their lives.

Our philosophy reflects our knowledge that sexual assault knows no boundaries of race, age, language, gender, sexual orientation, economic class, ability, or religion. Counselors and educators represent the diversity of the community.

History:
Since opening our doors in 1973, the mission of The Rape Crisis Center of Central Massachusetts has been to provide quality and multicultural services to those whose lives have been affected by sexual assault and to provide education geared toward the prevention of violence.
