The National MS Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and addresses the challenges of everyone affected by MS. MS stops people from moving. We exist to make sure it doesn't.

The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now - to move together toward a world free of MS. The Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families. Our Core Values of Commitment, Leadership, Integrity, Excellence and Teamwork, guide our work and actions daily.

History:
Research on MS was almost nonexistent in 1945, the year a small classified ad appeared in The New York Times: "MS. Will anyone recovered from it please communicate with patient." Sylvia Lawry placed that ad as her brother had been diagnosed with MS and lack of treatment options were frustrating. In 1946 the National MS Society was born, and in 1947 the Society sponsored its first three research projects. Today the Society is a driving force of MS research, relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatment and a cure.
