The mission of God's Pantry Food Bank is to reduce hunger in Kentucky through community cooperation making the best possible use of all available resources.
Description:
In many ways, America is the land of plenty. But for 1 in 6 Kentuckians, hunger is a reality. Many people believe that the problems associated with hunger are confined to small pockets of society, certain areas of the country, or certain neighborhoods, but the reality is much different.
Right now, more than 700,000 Kentuckians living in poverty are at risk of hunger. They are people we meet or interact with every day – the person driving your child’s school bus each day, the lady who cuts your hair at the mall, the sweet retired couple who sit behind you at church. Hunger does not discriminate.
These are often hard-working adults, children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days. Most of us simply have no idea. But we have the opportunity to help our neighbors in need.
God’s Pantry Food Bank is feeding more than 211,000 people living in our service area and the number is growing exponentially. Your support – through your time, financial support and voice – truly makes a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. There is no better time than today to reach out.
History:
Fifty-seven years ago, a concerned citizen named Mim Hunt began distributing food out of the basement of her home to those in need of assistance. Through the years, this small effort grew into the large-scale hunger relief organization that God's Pantry Food Bank is today.
