Woodford Humane Society
| Last updated on January 3, 2012 |
The Woodford Humane Society is a non profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the well being of homeless animals. Our mission is summarized by the acronym SAVE. Spay/Neuter, Adopt, Volunteer and Educate. Our organization strives to provide care for all of our community's homeless pets and find loving forever homes for each.
Description:
The Woodford Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that does not receive any government funding on any level. The Woodford Humane Society welcomes over 1200 animals each year and we strives to find good, loving homes for each of them. While cats and dogs are prevalent, the Adoption Center has been a temporary home for everything from rabbits and pot-bellied pigs to goats and snakes.
We have joined in a nationwide campaign called "No More Homeless Pets." The mission of this effort is "to help bring about a time when every cat or dog born in the United States is guaranteed a loving home." Our mission (as stated above) is to SAVE and each is important to end overpopulation. (S) Spay/neuter programs reduce the number of unwanted litters and decrease the homeless pet population. (A) Adoption programs finds loving forever homes for pets that were once unwanted. (V) Volunteer programs enable our organization to meet the needs of each pet and offer services that would not be available without the help of the community. (E) Educational programs heighten awareness of the pet overpopulation problem and teach responsible ownership to pet parents and families.
History:
The Woodford Humane Society was incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization in 1975 and has operated in its current location since 1981. In 2001, county funded Animal Control service separated from the Woodford Humane Society. We receive strays from other counties and owner-surrendered animals and work closely with Woodford Animal Control to bring unclaimed animals to our Adoption floor after they have served their required stray days.
