Agency - BCPS / Berks Connections

The purpose of BCPS / Berks Connections is to reduce recidivism and forge positive outcomes for inmates at the Berks County Prison and detained youth at the Berks County Youth Center; to provide community-based outreach to inmates and their families; to provide services and support to ex-offenders and to aid their reintegration back into our community; to provide safe and positive recreational activities for the children of inmates and other at-risk youth; and to serve as a link between the community, social service agencies and the Berks County criminal justice and juvenile justice systems.

Description:
To assist and to answer the needs of dependent and delinquent juveniles. To show a constructive concern for the criminal justice system, the juvenile justice system as well as the prison system and juvenile detention and placement systems in Berks County. BCPS is made up of community-minded citizens from all walks of life; the only pre-requisite for volunteer membership is interest. Volunteer training is done individually between a staff member and the potential volunteer and is provided on a regular on-going basis.

History:
Founded in 1975, BCPS / Berks Connections is a community-based organization that provided direct services, through a professional staff and trained volunteers, to adult defendants, offenders and ex-offenders and dependent and delinquent juveniles. BCPS/Berks Connections is a tax-exempt charitable organization funded through the County of Berks, state and federal grants, foundation grants, judiciaries and membership support.
