BCPS works to create a safer, more prosperous community by providing services, support and community-based outreach to adult offenders, at-risk youth and their families through successful community reintegration and by providing pretrial-related assistance to the courts and effective supervision of pretrial defendants.

Our agency is made up of of two program areas. The first area, BCPS, provides bail and pretrial services to people involved in the Berks County criminal justice system. The second area provides reentry services for ex-offenders and programming for incarcerated individuals and their families. Inmates involved in our volunteer programs experience higher employment rates and lower recidivism rates upon being released from jail.

Our organization has been a large part of the Berks County community for nearly forty years. Our donors and volunteers are individuals who are committed to making Reading a stronger and more prosperous area.

Won't you join us in our mission?

my mother's example
Not, that I was a volunteer. My mother was. I remember her dedication and satisfaction of helping others and helping herself at the same time. My mother had the daunting task of raising my brother and I as a single mom, and found a way to get her college degrees, Bachelor's and a double Master's in Psychology and Counseling. Plus she worked full time for the Reading School District, offering others who don't normally have a chance to succeed, the ability to see their strengths and qualities to do so. My mother was the consummate example of what a volunteer does and what volunteering can do for others. This feedback is in memory of my mom Ann S. (Brown)Troutman. Lovingly her daughter Lisa Renee' Brown-Sylvia
