The Arlington Victim/Witness Program (part of the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney) needs volunteers for providing support and information to senior victims of crime. Volunteers will work closely with Victim Specialists in cases involving victims over the age of 60. In most cases, at least one home visit to the senior will be needed. The volunteer may also accompany senior victims to court proceedings. HOURS: as needed, about 4 per week; daytime hours with some flexibility. This volunteer opportunity would be ideal for a retired person.
MINIMUM COMMITMENT: 1 year. SKILLS NEEDED: Good communication skills, ability to listen supportively and interact compassionately and appropriately with seniors. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must consent to and pass a criminal background check (no history of criminal convictions anywhere). Must sign strict confidentiality agreement, maintain absolute confidentiality regarding cases, and conduct him/herself in a professional and discreet manner. Must have own transportation. Must complete written application and interview process with the Program.
