Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Mentoring a student at UTES is a unique opportunity that includes working one on one with an elementary school aged child from the East Austin community. We ask for a thirty minutes to one hour per week two semester commitment to work with the same child each week for the entire school year. Mentors last school year engaged their students in activities such as: academic tutoring, self-esteem building activities, social skills activities, and simply talking. We work with teachers to identify students they think would benefit from mentoring and to set specific mentoring goals for each student, which are shared with the mentor. We ask the mentor to complete a bio that can be shared with the students parents/guardians so they know who is working with their child. Although there are varying levels of need at UTES, all students would benefit from the addition of another positive relationship with an adult.

We require a criminal background check of all volunteers before being matched with a student.

The school counselor will meet with you and train you in the mentoring process.
