AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps seeks full-time corps members of all backgrounds who will work for one year at anti-poverty organizations in Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and Washington, DC. Specific positions range from Legal Advocate and Health Outreach Worker, to Housing Resource Specialist. Through AVODAH, corps members are matched with placement organizations and work on issues such as immigration, domestic violence, hunger, homelessness and housing, legal assistance, environmental justice, youth work, education, public health, or others, depending on their interests. In addition to full-time work, corps members, ages 21-26, live together, learn together, and build a community committed to integrating Jewish life and social justice. Corps members earn a modest living allowance in addition to receiving health insurance, a travel subsidy and subsidized housing. Upon completion of the program, participants may qualify for an AmeriCorps Education Award of over $5,000 for repayment of student loans or continued education and may also be able to defer student loans.
Applicants must be between the ages of 21-26 at the start of the program year in August. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must be able to participate in the program for a full year. To learn more about AVODAH and to apply go to http://www.avodah.net/apply. The application requests basic contact information, resume, essays, and three references. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Recruitment and Communications Coordinator Rachel Gross-Prinz at apply@avodah.net.
