The Austin Parks Foundation is private, non profit organization committed to providing resources and partnerships that create and sustain beautiful and active parks.
Description:
Our Mission: Austin Parks Foundation is committed to providing the resources and partnerships that create and sustain beautiful and active parks. We seek to fill the gap between what needs to be done and what our parks department can afford to do. Since 1992, Austin Parks Foundation has initiated, promoted, and facilitated physical improvements, new programming, and greater community involvement for Austin's parks. Each year, Austin Parks Foundation generates millions of dollars in volunteer time, in-kind donations, and financial support for city parks.
History:
Founded in 1992, APF has: supported the funding and acquisition of the Barton Creek Wilderness Park; established a Lifeguard Training Scholarship Program; partnered with local stakeholders to build new facilities at Allison/Civitan, Bartholomew and Springdale Parks; led the citizen initiative to acquire and create Guerrero Park; launched a grant program that supports community led improvement and stewardship of Austin's neighborhood parks; revitalized historic Republic Square with movies, yoga, comedy and the downtown farmer's market; produced It's My Park! Day.
