New Hope Resource Center
The New Hope Resource Center is a faith-based ecumenical organization serving basic human needs in North Spokane County. We work closely with area churches and schools to actively reach the people who are most in need, both physically and spiritually.
Description:
New Hope Resource Center shares the resources of 16 participating churches with people in need. Programs include chore service, transportation assistance, aid with utility and rent bills, clothing bank, yearly client Christmas party, and a necessities bank. Volunteers also sponsor programs, such as a Gardening Clinic in May, and Monthly Dinners using food bank supplies. We also have fund raising events to include a wreath sale during the Christmas season and a summer concert. Office hours are Tuesday & Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and Thursday from 6pm - 8pm.
History:
The New Hope Resource Center began as the North Spokane County Outreach Project (NSCOP) in the summer of 2002. The founders of the project saw a need for a service agency in north Spokane County, with the absence of any agency serving seniors, or low income residents in that area. Originally, the project operated under Colbert Presbyterian Church's non-profit status, but now operates as a partner to the North County Food Pantry in Elk Washington. The name of the organization was changed to New Hope Resource Center in January of 2003, and a director was hired in the spring of 2003. Finally, after a year of organizing efforts, the New Hope Resource Center was opened for business in the summer of 2003.
