Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on January 10, 2013 |
As far as our volunteer opportunities, there are a ton of things to help with from walking dogs, socializing cats/kittens/puppies, cleaning, taking photos/videos of our adoptable animals, administrative duties, assisting at events/info booths, etc. The great thing about volunteering at the SAHS is that the volunteer hours are very flexible. We are open every day, except for major holidays, and the volunteer hours are from 8am-7pm. We encourage volunteers to come for at least one hour each time and if they’d like to stay longer, even better!
A volunteer orientation and follow up meeting are mandatory for each individual prior to volunteering. An orientation fee is required (per person), which covers your volunteer T-shirt or apron, badge, and insurance coverage in case of an injury. A background check will be performed for all volunteers 18 years and older (a social security number is required in order to volunteer). Individuals 12–15 years of age are referred to as Junior Volunteers and must have a parent/adult (18 years of age or older) volunteer with them at all times and those 16 years of age and older can volunteer on their own.

I love helping at the San Antonio Humane Society!

The staff is wonderful, and you can see that they truly love the animals. It's a great organization! The Volunteer Coordinator is fantastic, and it's fun being a part of their important work. As long as I am able, I will remain an active volunteer at the SAHS! posted by robin56 on April 4, 2011 |

Always feels good!

I started volunteering to get some extra exercise, and joined a dog walking team. Now, I help out in the office, play in the kitty cottage, help at events, and am a foster parent for new kitty moms and babies. I love volunteering at the Humane Society! If you love animals, I think this is a great volunteering opportunity for you! posted by coolauntbeth2000 on April 27, 2007 |

A Great Oppotunity

This is an excellant place to volunteer, and so much fun. The employees are so nice and understanding. The facilities are clean, and the ways to volunteer are so much fun. I really like playing with the puppies, and washing the older dogs. If you want a fun way to help the community this is definitely an excellent place to do it.
(And for all the cat lovers out there, there is a separate little 'house' for all the cats, no dogs allowed, where you can socialize with the cats and kittens!) posted by kelsiu07 on July 11, 2004 |
