The mission of Alpha Home is to provide spiritually based substance abuse treatment and support to women and their families in order to prepare them to become more productive members of society. The vision of Alpha Home, Inc. is to serve as a bridge of hope for women seeking freedom from substance abuse offering spirituality, counseling, prevention resources, and interactive education in a safe, compassionate home environment from a team of dedicated staff and volunteers.
Description:
Alpha Home offers both residential and outpatient treatment services for women, including drug and alcohol education, relapse prevention, parenting skills, and anger management. Alpha Home also partners with Family Service Association of San Antonio to form the Family First Program, a prevention and intervention program for pregnant and post-partum women. The Alpha Home Alumnae Program serves the women who have come through Alpha Home and allows alumnae to be involved in Alpha Home projects and serve as mentors.
History:
Alpha Home began as a mission of Trinity Baptist Church in 1966 with the purpose of ministering to alcoholic women. Today, more than 750 women are served each year with a success rate of 75 percent. Our success stories are in the thousands. In 2008, we served more than 439 women─48 of whom were pregnant and 300 who were single mothers. Sixty days after discharge from residential treatment, 82 percent reported continued abstinence from all drugs, including alcohol. Seventy-five percent of the women who completed outpatient treatment were still clean and sober after 60 days. The majority of our clients are indigent Bexar County single mothers with annual incomes of less than $10,000 and histories of disease, abuse, and homelessness. The
