Description:
The AVANCE Family Support and Education Program is a private, non-profit organization whose main purpose is to strengthen and support families. The AVANCE intervention model begins with families with infants and young children. Services are comprehensive in scope, community based, preventive nature and provided in a sequential manner to children and parents. The AVANCE program is offered in the home, schools, and in centers, some of which are located in public housing projects.
History:
AVANCE was created in 1973 with seed money from the Zale Foundation. AVANCE has been nationally recognized for establishing a successful family intervention program for hard-to-reach families with special emphasis on serving Hispanic families. This program has been recognized as a national model for impacting at-risk families. Its merits have been acknowledged by numerous distinguished visitors and included in national publications and directories throughout the country. The effects of this program have been formally tested and proven successful by the Carnegie Corporation of New York .
