The Bookworms provide weekly reading to children residing in homeless shelters. By building a better community, children jump start their imaginations by reading daily. Children learn and emerge.
Description:
The group consists of volunteers from the community. Each volunteer provides one hour of reading to children to increase their love and interest in reading and learning daily. Volunteers needed to build a better community for children to grow. "Leaders Read Day" recognizes guest readers that share in the group's goal of helping others grow. "THE READY READER" is a upcoming special project. "THE READY READER" is a Bi-monthly newspaper created for children residing in family and homeless shelters.
History:
The Bookworms have been serving the community since October of 2002. The group has grown with the support of various businesses, schools, libraries and community leaders. The group have also receives support from the local media. The group is currently in Camden, Atlantic and Gloucester Counties. Coming soon to Cumberland and Union Counties.
