South Santee Senior & Community Center is a multi-service organization whose purpose is to provide services and information to elderly residents and their families to enable elderly adults to maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life and to provide a structured and quality after school program.
Description:
South Santee Senior & Community Center provides daily services for senior clients and youth. We provide congregate and home delivered meals; transportation and Homecare/homebound support; health education, community gardening, yoga and social skill building regimen along with afterschool programming for students. Additional services include, Alzheimer's respite care, food pantry, emergency energy and food assistance, outsource referrals for home repairs. Services are provided to seniors and disabled clients throughout the areas of Awendaw, McClellanville and Mt. Pleasant. Hours of operation for the Awendaw Senior Center, 6655 Hwy 17 North, Awendaw,SC Monday -Friday 8:00am - 2:00pm;
Mt. Pleasant Seniors located at the Miriam Brown Community Center 116 Royall Ave., Mt. Pleasant,SC 8:00am-1:30pm;
The main site South Santee Senior and Community Center (site for after school program) 710 S. Santee Road McClellanville, SC Monday - Thursday 9am - 6pm and Fridays 9am - 4pm.(emergency referrals will be reviewed for holidays and weekend services).
The South Santee facility serves as the full provider of congregate and home delivered meals and central location for referrals; school age students are offered an excellent after school program during the regular school session of Charleston County Public Schools and partners with Charleston County Parks and Recreation to provide the summer food service program and recreation for youths in McClellanville and Awendaw during the summer months.
History:
South Santee Senior & Community Center has been the hub of essential services for the senior population residing primarily in McClellanville, Awendaw of East Cooper for over 35 years. Services have been extended to seniors residing in Mt. Pleasant. The center strives to provide services that will allow seniors to continue to live independently in their own homes. We take great pride in the services that are provided. The center has created a volunteer network that has gain National, State and local recognition and has received numerous awards and commendations for service delivery. Each senior is given an individualized service plan that caters to their personal needs.

From Charleston & 526 take hwy 17 North to Georgetown (from the Isle of Palms Connector drive time is approximately 40 minutes) travel Hwy 17 North through Awendaw. In McClellanville go through blinking yellow caution traffic light (approx 5 miles to go) Partriot Strawberry Farm on left. turn right on South Santee Rd. (will see brown directional sign for SC Coastal Reserve.) approx 2 miles you'll come to South Santee Community Center on right (old School Bldg) |
