Mission Statement: To provide individually tailored supports to persons with life-long disabilities to exercise choices regarding their inclusion and participation in community life.

Description:
Dorchester County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs develops, coordinates and operates services and programs for persons with developmental disabilities, autism, and head and spinal cord injuries. We provide residential services to approximately 100 developmental disable adults. We serve approximately 530 developmentally disabled children and adults through our Early Intervention program, and Service Coordination program. We offer respite, vocational training, summer camp and Saturday Recreational Respite outings/activities.

History:
Dorchester Disabilities and Special Needs was founded in 1967 as Association of Retarded Citizens. Dorchester Disabilities and Special Needs is a not-for-profit agency governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Governor upon recommendations of the Dorchester County Council. We serve approximately 530 developmentally delayed children and adults and employ approximately 225.
