About 2-1-1 Volunteer Connection

Mission

The tricounty Hotline has been providing support, crisis help and information to people in need for over 35 years. In 2003, the Hotline merged with Trident United Way to become the 2-1-1 Hotline, dedicated to increase the ease and effectiveness by which local citizens get help and give help.

As part of Trident United Way, we work with the vision councils to remain current on critical issues that challenge our community -- identifying the needs, targeting the gaps in services and finding ways to leverage community resources to fill those gaps. To learn more about all the ways Trident United Way works to solve the problems facing individuals and families in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties of South Carolina's Lowcountry, visit www.tuw.org.

211 Give Help

The "Give Help" component of 2-1-1 fosters the volunteer spirit and momentum that continue to grow in our community.

Day of Caring
Starting in 2000, Trident United Way has spearheaded the Day of Caring, engaging local businesses and service organizations to come together with helping agencies and schools to tackle projects to make the community more responsive to those in need. In 2009, 280 projects were completed by 6,300 volunteers.

Channel 4 Volunteer Spotlight
Since January 2005, ABCNews 4 has partnered with 2-1-1 Give Help to provide a forum for local helping and community enrichment agencies to recruit volunteers. Every Tuesday evening at 6:00 and 7:00, Channel 4 donates air time for these agencies to staff a phone bank and highlight how volunteers can serve their mission to improve our community.

GO Volunteer!
Each year, 2-1-1 Give Help publishes the GO Volunteer! directory that lists all the volunteer opportunities in the Tri-county area. This handy booklet allows interested individuals to learn more about how to get involved as a volunteer in the community.

2-1-1 GIVE HELP Website
Our web capabilities continue to grow, becoming more robust and more responsive to volunteer needs. Volunteer Solutions software gives us tools to expand our capacity to address the volunteer and donation needs of helping agencies as well as individuals and groups.

  • Helping and community enrichment agencies can post date-specific or ongoing volunteer opportunities or items needed to help them better serve the community.
  • Individuals and groups can search for "give back" opportunities by areas of interest, geographic location, age, etc.

We are excited as we continue to build our resources to serve the volunteer needs in the community. AND, we would love to learn from you!  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or feedback. Thank you for your continued support to build a better community.
