Action For Nature
Last updated on October 8, 2015

Encouraging young people to take personal action to nurture and protect a healthy environment on which all life depends.

Action For Nature seeks to encourage young people to be interested in Nature and in personal action. Our International Young Eco Hero Awards program started in 2003 has recognized over 150 youth around the world for exceptional environmental successes. they are profiled on our Web site at www.actionfornature.org. We reach out to youth through social networking and hold a celebration in San Francisco each October..

Action For Nature was founded some 30 years ago as Assisi Nature Council/USA by Shimon Schwarzschild. After concluding a successful campaign to save song bird habitat in Italy from hunters, Shimon wanted to encourage all people to take personal action for nature. The organization he founded was called Assisi Nature Council/USA (later changed to Action For Nature).. The board decided to concentrate efforts on youth believing that youth are the future of our world and it is imperative that they value the natural world. After publishing a book (still going through re-prints) "Acting For Nature," 13 stories of young people's environmental successes around the world, the board established in 2003 an annual contest called the International Young Eco-Heroes Award. We have honored and recognized well over 150 youth from around the USA and from all over the world.
