Volunteer Opportunity - TeamMates Mentor

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

TeamMates is a one-to-one mentoring program that matches adult volunteers with students who need an additional caring adult in their lives to offer encouragement and support. Volunteers who want to be a positive role model for youth come from local businesses, community organizations, and the general community. They meet for one hour each week with their TeamMate at the school, during the school year.

Mentors qualifications are:

*A sincere desire to be personally involved with another person to help him or her achieve personal and academic goals.

*The ability to communicate with youth and adults openly and in a non-judgemental manner.

*Strong listening skills and the ability to establish relationships based on equal responsibility and respect.

*Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to suggest options and alternatives.

*Sensitivity to persons of different educational, economic, cultural, or racial backgrounds.

Volunteers must attend a 2-hour training session before becoming active mentors. Training sessions are led by TeamMates of Metro Omaha at a variety of times during the day and evening.

To help ensure the safety and security of students, all mentors must complete an application form, provide references, and pass a criminal background check. Application materials are available from the TeamMates of Metro Omaha office (390-8326). Please be sure to tell TeamMates that you would like to mentor at a Millard school.
