Volunteer Opportunity - Clerk's Office Aide Office Support/Administrative Assistant

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on January 4, 2012

Offices of the Clerk of Court around the state are in need of people willing to serve as clerical aides in the Clerk's Office. These exciting opportunities include a variety of tasks that could include answering phones, filing, typing, assisting in the courtroom, and other office functions. This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of Maine's legal proceedings and helping the wheels of justice turn a little more smoothly. It is a particularly good experience for anyone interested in a career in law or the paralegal field, in doing background research for articles, books, or dramas -- as well as citizens who simply want to serve in an interesting environment.

Requirements: The most important attributes you can have as a Volunteer Assistant are the ability to work with people in a confusing environment and to communicate well; high ethical standards; respect for the work of the Judicial System, for the people it serves, and for the decorum it requires; and a good attitude and a sense of humor.

Volunteers must complete an application process that includes a criminal background check.

General office skills are helpful, but not required.
