The mission of Food & Fellowship, Inc. is three-fold: 1: To provide food & fellowship for people in the Lakes Region, seeking to serve those living with poverty, hunger, and social isolation; 2: To educate ourselves & others regarding the root causes of poverty, hunger, & isolation in rural areas; and 3: to work collaboratively with community partners in challenging the systems that keep poverty, hunger, and isolation in place.
Description:
Food & Fellowship, Inc. currently consist of local churches who provide food & fellowship to people in the geographical area of Maine known as the Lakes Region. This region encompasses the towns in Southern Maine that border Sebago Lake, notably Windham, Standish, Gray, Sebago, Naples, Casco, & Raymond. Currently we serve a free hot meal on the 1st & 2nd Monday of each month at Windham Assembly of God on Rte. 302 in North Windham, and the 3rd & 4th Monday of the month at Fellowship Hall of Windham Hill UCC at 140 Windham Center Road in Windham. Summer meals (Memorial Day thru Labor Day) are served at St Ann's Episcopal Church on River Rd in Windham, except if there is a 5th Monday. That meal is served at Standish Congregational Church on Oak Hill Rd off Rt 25 in Standish. Currently about 75% of the people who attend are seniors, with families & children making up the remainder of the folks who join us.
History:
The Monday Meals started out as an ecumenical project in March, 1999 serving one meal a month at the current location of Windham Hill UCC. The group organized as the Food & Fellowship, Inc. on Feb. 20, 2002, and increased the Monday meal from 2 to 4 Mondays a month in March, 2003 with the meals being split between Windham Assembly of God & Windham Hill UCC.
