![]() About Mississippi Commission for Volunteer ServiceHelping local organizations meet local needsVolunteer Mississippi engages and supports Mississippians of all ages and backgrounds in service to their communities. Volunteer Mississippi began with a small staff and a big dream: to make good things happen for Mississippi through the power of volunteers. Volunteer Mississippi was established as the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service in 1994 to promote community service and volunteerism to more effectively meet local needs. We oversee a large part of Mississippi's national service family as well as a network of Volunteer Centers. We believe that volunteers are a powerful force for community improvement, whose efforts make the most of limited resources; the Commission seeks to involve Mississippians to make a difference in every community in the state. Through the sponsorship of our volunteer matching portal, VolunteerMississippi.net, Volunteer Mississippi connects thousands of Mississippi volunteers with the causes that are most meaningful to them. Concerned citizens can simply click and find a volunteer opportunity that fits their skills, interests, time availability and, most importantly, their passion. Volunteerism is about helping people. It's about connecting committed individuals to the organizations doing the good work—it's about Getting the Job Done.
