Old Colony Correctional Center, a high-tech medium security facility and the Old Colony Correctional Center Minimum Unit are located on thirty acres of land at the Bridgewater Correctional Complex, along with Bridgewater State Hospital, Massachusetts Alcohol and Substance Abuse Center, and the Treatment Center. Since Old Colony is not a committing institution, inmates are transferred there from other Massachusetts Department of Correction facilities. The Old Colony Correctional Center treatment/program services offer its inmates the opportunity to take part in educational, treatment and reintegration programs. They include mental health, educational, religious and substance abuse programs. Presently, the volunteer coordinator is interested to locate a volunteer(s) to facilitate Narcotic Anonymous meetings in English and/or Spanish.

Volunteer(s) will be required to attend an orientation program that will provide an understanding of the rules, responsibilities, and standard procedures of required conduct for all individuals who enter a correctional institution.

Volunteering in the prisons has been inspiring and has deepened my spiritual llife enormously.

The Alternatives to Violence Project workshops provide experiential community building and skills in communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution. In facilitating these workshops for the last 15 years, I have profoundly experienced the power of individuals to overcome years of isolation, distrust and fear to build a community based on respect and caring.
