Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters®, nationally sponsored by the ConAgra Foods® Foundation and WalMart Foundation, is celebrating 18 years of groundbreaking nutrition education. Cooking Matters works to connect families with food by teaching them how to prepare healthy, tasty meals on a limited budget.

Cooking Matters’s volunteer instructors teach multi-session class series, using lesson plans and recipes from established curricula. Nutrition volunteers work in partnership with volunteer chefs to teach basic nutrition, including selection and purchase of healthy, low-cost foods.

Class series meet once a week for six weeks and are coordinated by Cooking Matters staff. Classes are offered for adults, teens, and children, and are held at community agencies. Cooking Matters provides materials including curricula, participant handouts and recipes, nutrition education tools, cooking supplies, and food.

• Professional nutrition experience or training
• Interest in working with low-income individuals with diverse backgrounds
• Dedication to helping alleviate hunger and poverty
• Comfort speaking in front of and leading a group (teaching experience a plus!)
• Ability to travel to class location once a week for six weeks
• Willingness to work alongside a volunteer chef and be trained in Cooking Matters curricula
• Willingness to work as a team and adhere to program policies and procedures
Time commitment
• Instructing: at least 2 hours a week for six weeks, plus travel time to and from class locations
• Training: orientation, class observation, ongoing training as needed

When you exit the station, turn right onto West Squantum Street and continue for 3 blocks until you see Farrington St. on the left. The office is located in the Manet Community Health Center building, at the corner of W. Squantum and Farrington. We are on the second floor in Suite 27.
