Musicians wanted to teach/mentor young Latino musicians Education Older Adults Youth

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on January 16, 2014

Volunteer in Sociedad Latina's Music Clubhouse and teach instrumental, voice, or beatmaking lessons, play in ensembles, or present workshops on a topic of your choice. We have weekly volunteer opportunities for adults of all ages and with a range of music and arts backgrounds. All volunteers have a direct impact on the lives of our youth and have the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships that support youth in reaching their goals.

Our Music Clubhouse provides young people from Boston's Latino and Mission Hill/Roxbury communities the opportunity to experience different musical styles, learn technical skills, appreciate cultural influences, express themselves creatively and become community leaders and art advocates. Numerous studies show the positive effect arts have on academics and behavior - our Music Clubhouse offers critical arts programming to youth who have limited access to music instruction in their schools.

As schools continue to reduce arts instruction, the Music Clubhouse is a vital program for under-served youth and community members. It fosters connections between diverse groups of people, increases vitality and celebrates Latino traditions. In addition, it offers youth the opportunity to express themselves through the arts and to improve their musical skills. Through participation in Music Clubhouse, youth also gain confidence, improve academic skills, develop life skills and become the next generation of Latino leaders.
